In July 2009, the NAHN will be having their 34th Annual Conference here in San Antonio at the Crowne Plaza Riverwalk Hotel. NAHN invites the submission of abstracts for presentation.

Methodist Healthcare Ministries has Awarded a $1.5 Million Grant to Strengthen Our Community’s Nursing Education Infrastructure

In an effort to help grow the number of qualified nurses in San Antonio, Methodist Healthcare Ministries has awarded San Antonio College and St Philip’s College $1.5 million for their nursing education programs. The grant will be used to increase the supply of qualified nurse educators, to enhance student learning via a state-of-the art simulation lab, and to provide financial assistance to students.

Methodist Hospital - Leader in Breast Reconstruction Surgery

Methodist Hospital is one of only two hospitals in the nation providing Spy Imaging Technology for breast reconstruction surgery. Dr. Minos Chrysopoulo was interviewed by KENS-TV about Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) Flap breast reconstructive surgery. This innovative technology provides improved outcomes and reduces complications for patients.

CNO Announcement - Methodist Hospital

Wanda Gibbons has joined the leadership team as the Chief Nursing Officer for the Methodist Hospital.

Wanda has spent the past eight years as the Chief Nursing Officer at Baptist Health System in Knoxville, TN, and St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. Most recently, Wanda served as a Senior Consultant with Baptist Health in Jacksonville, FL, where she was responsible for the successful launch of the Operational Performance Improvement Department to support Baptist’s five hospital system. Wanda will be returning to Texas where she served as a Vice President for the Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX from 1988 to 1999.

Wanda earned her BSN from the Medical University of South Carolina, a Masters of Healthcare Administration from Duke University and is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives. Additionally, Wanda earned her Black Belt Certification in Six Sigma.

Methodist Heart Hospital Receives Chest Pain Center Accreditation

After evaluation by a review team from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, Methodist Hospital, home of the Methodist Heart Hospital, has been designated as an accredited Chest Pain Center. To achieve this distinction, the hospital demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care and met or exceeded a wide set of standards related to heart care, including:

Quickly assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with chest pain
Ensuring personnel are trained to the highest standards
Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
Integrating the emergency department with the local EMS
