Methodist Healthcare has a history of bringing innovative healthcare to San Antonio. It began in 1963 with Methodist Hospital—the first “nuclear age” hospital in the United States. It continued in 1998, with the opening of the Methodist Children’s Hospital, the only hospital in San Antonio designed and built for children. And designs for the future continue today with the opening of the “new” Northeast Methodist Hospital and the Metropolitan Methodist Women’s Pavilion.
With construction beginning in mid 2006, we will make history again with the opening of the hospital of the future—Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. As a “next generation” hospital, specific infrastructure designs will reflect very different thinking about how hospitals are organized in face of rapidly changing ways patients are diagnosed and treated. Easily accessible centers of care will be the new focus. And, advanced technology will provide a greater level of quality and efficiency.
