The Methodist Healthcare Scholars Program is for system employees who are interested in becoming a Registered Nurse or obtaining an advanced Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or a Master of Science degree in Nursing for those who are already Registered Nurses.

The desired outcomes of these programs are to develop a career as a licensed Registered Nurse with the aid of financial support from Methodist Healthcare, and to continue employment with Methodist Healthcare as a Registered Nurse after graduation.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing Scholars Program

The Methodist Healthcare Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing Scholars Program is a work/school program that provides support for
Registered Nurse employees that are enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or graduate nursing program. Applicant selection is a competitive process.

Associate Degree in Nursing/Diploma to Bachelor of Science in Nursing

• Reimbursement up to $7,500 for tuition, books, and fees for 30 hours of study for the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
• Methodist Healthcare will support up to five semesters of study

Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Master of Science in Nursing

• Reimbursement up to $7,500 for tuition, fees, and books for 37 hours of study for the Master of Science degree in Nursing
• Methodist Healthcare will support up to seven semesters of study

Associate Degree in Nursing to Master of Science in Nursing

• Reimbursement up to $6,000 for tuition, books, and fees for 57 hours of study for the Master of Science degree in Nursing
• Methodist Healthcare will support up to nine semesters of study

Continued Eligibility Requirements:

• Maintain satisfactory work performance
• Maintain full-time work status of 64 hours per pay period

You are eligible to apply if you have:

• Been employed at Methodist Healthcare as a Registered Nurse for one year and total hours worked equates to an average of 64 or more hours per pay period
• No job-related disciplinary action for performance or attendance within the past six months
• Earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, an Associate Degree in Nursing, or a Diploma in Nursing
• Been successfully admitted to an accredited baccalaureate or graduate school of nursing in San Antonio

Extern II Scholars Program

The Methodist Healthcare Extern II Scholars Program provides support for externs attending an accredited associate or baccalaureate nursing degree program in San Antonio for the initial degree leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse. Applicant selection is a competitive process.

Those selected receive reimbursement up to $1,200 per semester for tuition, books, and fees for nursing courses. In addition, the scholarship recipient may receive a weekly stipend of $75 not to exceed $1,200 per semester.

Selected scholars are expected to:

• Maintain satisfactory work performance as an Extern II
• Continue to work a minimum of 16 hours per pay period during the academic semester
• Maintain satisfactory standing in the nursing program
• Maintain status as a full-time student without any break in enrollment

You are eligible if you have:

• Been actively enrolled as a full-time nursing student in an accredited school of nursing program in San Antonio leading to licensing as a Registered Nurse
• Have been employed at Methodist Healthcare as an extern for seven months, and have worked the required extern hours per pay period
• Have no job-related disciplinary action within the past six months

OR

• Been actively enrolled as a full-time nursing student in an accredited school of nursing program in San Antonio for the initial Registered Nurse degree
• Have been employed at Methodist Healthcare as an Extern II for three months and have worked a minimum of 16 hours per pay period as an Extern II during that time
• Have no job-related disciplinary action within the past six months

Registered Nurse Work/School Program

The Methodist Healthcare Registered Nurse Work/School Program provides support for employees who have been accepted into an accredited associate or baccalaureate nursing degree program in San Antonio for the initial degree leading to licensure as a Registered Nurse. Applicant selection is a competitive process.

Those selected may receive up to $10,000 in scholarship funds: $2,000 to meet initial expenses and then $8,000 over six semesters for tuition, books, and fees. Scholars may be eligible for paid days off each semester, totaling no more than 25 per year. This support makes it possible to maintain full salary and benefits while having time to study.

Selected scholars are expected to:

• Maintain satisfactory work performance
• Continue to work the authorized hours throughout the academic semesters and during other periods of the year
• Maintain satisfactory standing in the nursing program

Scholars under this special support program cannot apply for the regular Methodist Healthcare tuition reimbursement program during the time he/she is receiving
Scholarship Program benefits.

You are eligible if you have:

• Been employed at a Methodist Healthcare facility for six months as a full-time employee (at least 64 hours/pay period)
• No job-related disciplinary action within the past six months
• Been successfully admitted to an accredited school of nursing in San Antonio
